Out of the 1000's of Formula One images I took between 1996 and 2016, this is without doubt my favourite one.


Michael Schumacher existing La Rascasse corner in his Ferrari, during the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix, a race that Michael would go on to win. My wife and I had tickets for the entire race weekend, each day in a different grandstand, and this one for race day was perfectly suited to get this image.


I have been a regular visitor to the area since 1996, and often stand at the same spot I took this image twenty four years ago, and remember Michael - what a great driver he was, and how sad a seemingly innocuous accident has had such a tragic effect on his life.
